1. What’s the Point of Your Presentation/Talk/Speech?
Every time you get the chance to step in front of an audience your ultimate goal should be to leave them better off after hearing you speak. How can you do this?
Ask yourself: WHY am I on stage? Is it to:
A MIX OF THE ABOVE?
Be REALLY crazily CRYSTAL clear about your reasons. Don’t just step on stage because you have a product to sell. Growing your business is ALWAYS an obvious outcome BUT VALUABLE CONTENT FIRST. Your business reasons for stepping on stage could be:
GROWING YOUR LIST
PROMOTING A NEW PROJECT
FUNDRAISING FOR CHARITY
SELLING YOUR SERVICES/PRODUCTS
ENROLLING PEOPLE INTO A NEW SCHOOL OF THOUGHT
Lastly, having a SOLID structure is the key ingredient for COMING TO THE POINT!
MAIN POINT then a) story b) example c) action step transition to MAIN POINT 2 story/example/action step etc.
The more clear your structure the better you will be able to weave your content in. DON’T OVERDO IT – it’s NOT about cramping in as much as you know and as much as you can (your audience can’t absorb nor remember the knowledge you accumulated in the last 30 or so years in 30 min, they get saturated pretty quickly). Less is more for your audience, they will appreciate it and you will be credible, even with saying less.
NOW PRACTISE! Coming to the point takes time and effort and skill, don’t expect to be perfect from day one. Be okay with being mediocre to start with BUT START! Now.
